Teagasc research has shown that earlier application of chemical or organic (slurry) N is critical to spring grass growth

Weather permitting, farmers should aim to apply 48 units of N in the form of either chemical or slurry or a combination of both by early April.

Teagasc research by Sarah Walsh, has shown  when no N is applied in February, the N response to March application is reduced.

Applying 16 units in February and 32 units in March grew 60kgs more grass DM/ha than applying the total 48 units in one application in March.

For the best response to spring N apply 16 units, as soon as weather allows. This early application will have a significant influence on the amount

of grass you grow on your farm this spring.
